When Spanish explorers first arrived on Hilton Head, they landed in the future home of the Spanish Wells community. Although it is a private community, it is perfect for those who want to get away from their hectic schedules and get away from it all. The Port Royal Community is home to the original landing site of William Hilton, the explorer the island is named after. This community includes both a private residential region as well as a public resort region for guests.
There are many other Hilton Head communities just waiting to be explored. Hilton Head Plantation offers fine beaches, bike trails, four different superb golf courses, boating, world-class tennis courts, and two different nature conservancy centers. Windmill Harbour is the ideal destination for boating and water sports enthusiasts, offering direct access to the famous Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Other famous communities include Palmetto Dunes, Indigo Run, Wexford, and Shipyard Plantation. Each of these Hilton Head communities has something remarkable to offer, and together they assemble the complete Hilton Head Island adventure.
